Megan Fox. Done. Michael Jackson. Dead.
People always told me be careful of what you do
And don't go around breaking young girls hearts
And mother always told me be careful of who you love
And be careful of what you do, cause the lie becomes the truth...
- from Billie Jean
According to Wikipedia, the song's lyrics refer to a real-life experience and is well known for its distinctive bass line and Jackson's vocal hiccups. His biography, "Magic & The Madness" documents how a young woman wrote a letter to Jackson, informing the singer that he was the father of one of twins. Jackson, who regularly received letters of this kind, had never met the woman and ignored it. The woman sent more letters to Jackson, claiming that she loved him and wanted to be with him. She wrote of how happy they would be, bringing up the child together. She pondered how Jackson could ignore his own flesh and blood. Due to the stress of receiving the letters, the singer suffered from nightmares.
Following the letters, Jackson received a parcel containing a photograph of the fan, as well as a letter and a gun. Jackson was horrified—the letter asked that the pop star kill himself on a certain day and at a specific time. The fan would do the same once she had killed their baby. She wrote that if they could not be together in this life, then they would be in the next. To his mother's dismay, Jackson had the photograph framed and hung above the dining room table of their family home. Afterward, the Jacksons discovered that the female fan had been sent to a psychiatric hospital. 'Billie Jean' was written by Jackson and produced by Quincy Jones for the singer's sixth solo album, Thriller (1982). Originally disliked by Jones, the track was almost removed from the album after he and Jackson had a disagreement.
This morning, I was awoken by a 7.05am sms from IA that read - Michael Jackson died. From cardiac arrest.
I was not at all surprised, told myself at least I got to witness him live in action (in '97 I reckon and it was a fantastic concert) and went back to sleep. However, on the way to work this song (which is undeniably one of his most pivotal songs of his career) was played as a tribute and for a moment, a slight tinge of sadness took over me. He may have been Wacko Jacko, but he is and always will be, an International Pop Icon.
R.I.P. Michael Joseph Jackson
