How to avoid making bad choices.

Whether you're looking for a new job, or a gift or even a soulmate, it's hard to to know whether to take what you've just seen or continue looking.

Science actually provides a rule of thumb:
You weigh up the merits of the 1st offer but don't accept it. However, keep it within your grasp.
Now continue looking or simply wait. And if another offer comes along, don't accept this 2nd offer.
If the next offer that comes along is better than the 2nd offer, you take it. If not, you continue looking or waiting and accept the next offer than beats the 2nd offer.
If all offers that come along are not better than offer number 2, decide on number 1.

Of course in certain cases where you don't have the luxury of time to make a decision, you need to set a time frame and accept the next best offer that comes along.
This theory has apparently been proven to maximise your chances of making the best choice and minimising the risk of making the worst choice.
"Who says serial dating is a bad thing? It might lead you to the One in the end..."
My boss shared this excerpt she read from Readers' Digest Asia during lunch. Thought it made sense if one sees it from a practical perspective. With no heart strings attached. I reckon it is useful for those who are fickled-minded.

As always, some things are better shared than kept to yourself. So there you have it. I'm spreading the knowledge. Try this theory out the next time you have a decision to make with multiple choices to choose from should you have any.
